Coumarins from the aerial parts of Artemisia stolonifera (Max.) Kom.

Abstract
Artemisia stolonifera (Max.) Kom. is widely distributed in Korea and has been often used as folk medicine in urination, eye disease and antipyretic. Literature survey revealed that nothing was reported about the phytochemical study except the isolation of herniarin from this plant. Aerial part of Artemisia stolonifera was extracted with ethanol and its extract was partitioned with n-hexane, ethylacetate and n-butanol. Repeated column chromatography of each extract on silica gel, and sephadex LH-20 column chromatography led to the isolation of one sterol and four coumarins ; ¥â-sitosterol(¥°), herniarin(¥±), dracunculin(¥²), scopoletin(¥³) and scopolin(¥´). The structures were elucidated by the physico-chemical and spectral data.
